Travel Insurance - Travel Cancellation

The insured purchased 2 tours, one in Jan another in Feb and was to travel in May and June respectively. In both cases, the insured purchased Single Trip Travel Insurance immediately after confirming the tour. However sometime in April, he had an accident and suffered a fracture. The doctor certified the insured was unfit to travel for the May trip and the insured intimated for a claim under Travel Cancellation. As it was a straightforward situation, the claim was promptly paid. The insured's recovery rate was slow and when his June trip was up, he was still unable to travel. A doctor's report was issued to certify he was still unfit to travel. Would the insured be able to file a Travel Cancellation claim on the 2nd Single Trip Travel Insurance? Would the 2nd claim be regarded as a pre-existing condition bearing in mind that at the time of the Travel Insurance purchase, the insured was fit and healthy. Members' views appreciated!

  • Ham Kwang Chan: Please correct me if I am wrong. Pre-existing condition is only applicable to illness and related claim and not on accidental incident.
  • Raymond Huang: No such thing as pre-existing condition. The injury arose from the April accident and triggered the first claim. Recovery was tardy and this will also trigger the second claim. Both claims were the result of the accident and are payable.
  • Charly Lim: I don't think it will be pre existing...my view claimable
  • Andrew Wong: Sorry, was `down' for the last couple of days due to acute unwellness (those common bad stomach ache, nausea and fever sorts) but now on the road to recovery. ~ Ham Kwang Chan, - pre-existing condition does not relates to illness only. It could be any event that has occurred resulting in the insured not being able to travel and such event is aware by the insured at the time the insured took out the policy. - Actually, I missed this sub-clause under General Exceptions until Raymond Huang made enlightenment to my post. Thanks for the enlightenment Raymond Huang......appreciate!
